It can be found on the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) website www.safersys.org. Click on "Carrier Snapshot". One can request a motor carrier to give their USDOT number, then enter it, or the company’s legal name. Important information sections on the web-site are as follow: Percent of buses put out of service with safety defects; If there has been a Compliance Review and how the company rated - "SATISFACTORY" is a desired rating. Next click on "FMCSA Licensing & Insurance" section to check the following information: Authority status (be sure it is rated ACTIVE in this section); amount of insurance on file, a minimum of $5,000,000; and Insurance History and Authority History.
